Linda and I killed the rest of the afternoon walking around, having a glass of prosecco, visiting Antonio at his little specialty food shop, etc.
At about 6:30 we headed back toward the Piazza to watch the first “prova” (test). This is the first time the contrada jockey and horse get to run the course together. These are just for practice but of course are very important for the jockey and horse to get to know each other.
As we headed to the Piazza we heard one of the contrada (the singing!) and then suddenly here they come down a main road of Siena, with the horse, heading to the Piazza del Campo to get ready for tonight’s spectacle!
This is how Siena rolls during the Palio!
