Hans Christian Andersen

Of course everybody knows Hans, if not for the books then the Disney movies or from Danny Kaye’s portrayal (personally, not a fan of Danny).

Hans was not the most handsome guy, he had a schnoz that rivaled Dante’s, as can be witnessed by the stamp in the slideshow, but he is certainly one of greatest Dane’s in history. (BTW, haven’t seen any great canines!)

The broadest avenue in Copenhagen is “Hans Christian Andersen Boulevard” and of course there is the statue of the Little Mermaid along the coastal waters which has become the symbol of Copenhagen.

It seems appropriate for me to visit Denmark and pay homage to Hans after spending time in my Thumbelina-sized apartment in Siena!

Hans’ most famous children’s stories:

  • The Little Mermaid
  • Thumbelina
  • The Little Match Girl
  • The Steadfast Soldier
  • The Snow Queen
  • The Ugly Duckling
