I arrived back in the U.S.A. late Monday night. No, I am not happy about it, but I am happy to see my house, and to see that it is still standing, and to see that it is not all that terribly dirty/dusty after four months!
I am calling this post Re-entry “Phase 1” as this is just a minor pit stop before my next adventure, but provides a reminder that sooner or later I need to figure out what to do with myself going forward and I need to consider how I feel about being back home after such a long absence. Hmm??
I woke up pretty early this morning due to the time difference, and I also didn’t have a very good sleep. I think my bed is actually too soft! It is certainly way softer than anything I have slept on in Italy!!
I had a hair appointment at 11:15 so headed out a bit early to get some coffee. But, whoa! Surprise! My car won’t start! Neither car will start! CRAP!
My friend Leslie had actually asked me about my cars when we were in Copenhagen (i.e. was anyone looking after them) but I didn’t think anything of it as they are in a garage and the weather isn’t cold so I never figured the batteries would run down. I also have good insurance so knew that I could get a jump easily enough if necessary.
After rescheduling my hair appointment (thankfully there is some flexibility during ‘normal business hours’), I spent most of the day dealing with these irritable vehicles! The more expensive of the two just wouldn’t hold the charge. It was jumped twice and I even went on a long drive in it but then it would go completely dead again. Oh well! The final consensus was that there must be a faulty cell within the battery so I had the tow truck guy take it to the dealer and asked them to keep it until I come back from my next adventure so I won’t have to go through this again!
In the midst of all of this, there was laundry and mail! My Lord, how can there be so much mail!!! My neighbors created numerous piles of it on my breakfast table. I have spent literally hours going through all the business correspondence and threw out God only knows how many pounds of magazines and I am still not finished! Mamma Mia!
On the positive side, the weather is beautiful and the leaves, although past prime autumn color, are still gorgeous!
