Happy Birthday to me!

Saturday was my birthday!  Hip, hip for me 🙂

Leslie made reservations at a wonderful restaurant that she is familiar with from her many travels to Buenos Aires, it is called Cabaña Las Lilas and is in the fashionable reclaimed area of Puerto Madero.

We ate well, and a lot!  Plus we had a lot to drink!   The weather was gorgeous and the meal and company were excellent (thanks, Leslie!).

One of the weird things we experienced, though, is that they zip-tied our bags to our chairs as a measure against theft.  This is one of the hard things to deal with in South America, the crime.  I personally have never seen anything happen, but have heard lots of stories and it is better to be safe that sorry.  We also joked that this made sure we didn’t run away without paying the bill!

“Medallón de Lomo” (the Argentine version of filet mignon) is my new best friend, but it is like that bad devil that sits on your left shoulder. Oooh, and he is a bad boy!  I mean, seriously, look at the size of the portions you get (in the slideshow!)

Our steaks came with the cutest little cows stuck in them to make sure we were getting the right temperature.  Leslie wanted to do a double-check so leaned over and asked me “What does you cow say?”.  Well, duh, “moo?!!”.  Or maybe he did say that a couple of hours ago!  I got a good laugh out of it and hope she doesn’t mind the jibbing!

We had various breads and appetizers and such along with the meal.  It was a lot, but I enjoyed every minute of it!  I also had these things called papas soufflé (potatoes soufflé) which were the strangest things, they were like potato chip puffs!  Yum!

I don’t think I could every live in Argentina due to the ‘call of the beef’!

What’s that squeaking??  Oh, it is just the blood trying to squeeze through my arteries!

After lunch we headed back to the hotel to crash and digest.  Then we pulled ourselves together at 9:30 to head to the Rojo Tango Show at Faena Hotel + Universe which is one of the swankiest hotels in Buenos Aires.  It was great, in a “speakeasy” type of setting.  No pictures allowed!

I had a wonderful birthday!
