I had some typical foods for lunch today. I saw “tamales” on a board at a whole-in-the-wall place off the square and couldn’t resist! I threw in two little empanadas, too!
Tamales are one of my Mexican weaknesses, I have even made them at home (and they are hard to make) so I wanted to see what they were like here.
They are round, which was very interesting to me as I would think they must be much more difficult to wrap up in the corn husk than the sausage shaped technique the Mexican’s use.
The ones I tried today didn’t use any tomatillo sauce (although not all Mexican versions do, either). They still had a reasonable ‘kick’ to them, though and they hit the spot!
